40 feared dead in new clashes
At least 40 people were feared dead yesterday following three days of ethnic
fighting near Isiolo, Kenya, although police officially put the toll at only seven.
The dead included three policemen: an inspector who was deputy head of the
town's police, a constable and a reservist.
Cabinet colleague rejects Nassir's war cry
Minister Marsden Madoka yesterday rejected his Coast colleague Shariff Nassir's
warning of bloodshed over the faiths-led Ufungamano bid for constitutional reform.
"We will not advocate bloodshed or violence of any sort," said Mr Madoka.
Workers walk out in protest
Labour Day celebrations in Nairobi ended in disarray when workers walked out
en masse, protesting at a six per cent minimum wage increment given by the
government.
Moi names 12 new diplomats
President Moi yesterday named 12 new ambassadors and high commissioners.
The former Managing Trustee of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Mr
Samuel Watuka Muindi, has been named the new High Commissioner to Nigeria.

of transit oil into the local market is causing frustration in the oil industry.
