Horse Racing Stake money added to racesToday's races at the Ngong racecourse have been sponsored by Naivasha-based firms, Van Kleef Kenya and Rosen Tantau, who have added stake money to each race on the cards. And to spice up the day, Christian Evers and George Wieners, owners of Rosen Tantau who are breeders of roses, will be coming from their headquarters in Germany to attend the day's racing. There are nine races altogether, including an ostrich race. The first race, a hurdle event over 2,800m will be ridden by professionals and amateurs and has attracted six runners. Four ostriches ridden by former jockeys will be one of the highlights. Buster Parnell, who dominated racing in Kenya up to the 1970s, will ride an ostrich as will the father and son pair of Johnny Limb Snr and Johnny Limb Jnr. Of the seven races, the top rated race will be the Kijabe Ember Condition for the Kenya Gold Cup which will be raced over 3.200m. An interesting field of seven was declared for the condition race for three-year-olds and over. They include derby champion Blue Cap who came second to Black Empress over 2,400m recently. Planters Punch (Julie McCann), Landfall (John McGinn) and Mytlewood (Ibrahim Wachira) are other top contenders. Selection 2 pm
