Bishops lash govt over mismanagement, corruption Catholic bishops yesterday put the government in the dock for the ailing economy
and mismanagement of public affairs. Kenya had abundant human and natural
resources which had not been properly used due to official corruption and
dishonesty, they said, and warned against stealing of public funds.
Decline in coffee, tea earnings behind depreciation of shilling The depreciation of the shilling has partly been attributed to a decline in foreign
exchange earnings from coffee and tea. Other factors include the tourism slump,
the delay in IMF aid resumption and capital flight due to low yields on Treasury
bills.
