VP, Biwott named in Sh850m scandal
Vice-President George Saitoti and Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott exerted undue pressure to have Sh850 million of public money released to a project that failed to get off the ground, an official report has revealed.
Budget to overshoot last year's by Sh47b
This year's Budget will overshoot last year's by more than Sh47 billion, estimates tabled in Parliament yesterday indicate. The entire Budget Finance Minister Francis Masakhalia will be asking Parliament to approve this afternoon amounts to Sh298.26 billion, an increase from Sh251.48 billion last year.
PAC censures Lands boss over allocations
The Public Accounts Committee has ordered the Commissioner of Lands, Mr Wilson Gachanja, to desist from alienating public land and allocating it to private developers without undertaking the necessary evaluation of the needs of the allottees.

Reforms demo gains support as minister calls for restraint
With hours ticking towards the constitution review demonstration, Education Minister Kalonzo Musyoka yesterday appealed for restraint from the marchers. The secretary to Chemchemi ya Ukweli Movement - which has organised the demonstration, Mr Said Athman, said demonstrators will not retaliate even if police interfered with today's march. "We will just sit down as they descend on us."

Ex-officer killed in bizarre attack
A retired police chief was murdered in a bizarre six-hour episode during which his killers first slaughtered and ate a chicken. The police said the raiders strangled former Snr. Supt. Abuid Maina with a sheet then hit his head with an axe killing him instantly.
