Why is KIMC in in such a mess? I am worried by a number of issues at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication. The Government has turned a blind eye to the institution and a number of key issues have been neglected. The first important area is the institutions library. Most of the books (which are really old) you find there are for the engineering and production departments. There are very few for students of journalism and mass communication. There have been promises to renovate and equip the library but to no avail. KIMC students have to register with private libraries - University of Nairobi's School of Journalism library or the British Council library to acquire vital books. The other nagging issue is that of the institution's clinic. It's really pathetic to find that you cannot go there and get the medicine you need at any time. The nurses have resorted to prescribing drugs to be bought outside. This is costly and inconvenient. Can anyone explain why the clinic is in this mess? NJAGI W. NJAGI, Nairobi.
