BOXING

Police determined to keep their title

By FRANCIS MUREITHI

Defending champions Kenya Police Boxing Club made their intentions known of retaining the national league title when six of their fighters sailed into the semi finals as the first leg of the competition started at the Madison Square Garden, Nakuru.

The three-day event, attracting nine teams was due to end last night.

Former champions, Kenya Prisons, who gave the policemen a good run for their money on the opening day of the tournament landed five boxers in the semis.

Kenya Ports Authority, who are making a comeback after a long lay-off, showed that they are still are force to reckon with when four of the boxers made it to the semis.

AFABA and Kisumu Railways had three boxers each in the semis while the fast-fading Kenya Telkom and newcomers Utawala had one boxer each in the semis.

Hosts Nakuru ABC and Nairobi's Thailand had a disastrous opening day as all their boxers were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
