Final entries for Concours received
By NATION Reporter
All 70 places in this year's Ferodo Concours d'Elegance vehicle
show have been filled.
The last three places in the July 11 car beauty contest were taken
this week when Mombasa motoring enthusiast Brian Gow entered a 1960 Willys
Jeep and Hanif and Shabir Bhola entered two pre-1940 Chevrolets. The Bholas
are based in Maralal.
There are no other places for cars remaining in this year's show to
be held at the Nairobi Racecourse.
There is strong interest in the five motorcycle classes, leaving only
six vacancies for two wheelers. John Simon has entered five motorcycles,
including his amazing locally built Simba 3 wheeler, which is powered by
a Subaru engine and a giant Honda Goldwing.
Among the entries in the competition motorcycle class are Daljit Chager's
1978 Yamaha road racer and Kenya Junior Motorcross champion Daniel Muturi's
Suzuki.
The Nation Media Group is donating trophies for the various categories.
For the fifth successive year, a Classic Car and Motorcycle Sale
will held at the Nairobi Racecourse in conjunction with the Concours. The
event is open to any car or motorcycle made in 1974 or earlier, regardless
of the condition of the machine.
The Classic sale is an ideal opportunity for the owners of unwanted
old cars and motorcycles to offer them for sale to the hundreds of motoring
enthusiasts who flock to the Racecourse on Concours day.
Information on the Ferodo Concours d'Elegance, the Classic Sale
and Auto Expo (the motor trade section) is available from the Bob Dewar
Publicity offices in Block G, Norfolk Towers, Kijabe Street. The Telephone
numbers are 333130, or 22993 (office hours) and the postal address is Box
41305, Nairobi.
