Could it really be happening? News from the entertainment scene seems just too good to be true. Consider the kind of treatment performers at last weekend's Benson & Hedges Gold & Tones concert received from the sponsors. It was nothing short of bona fide, five-star treatment, never before seen in this country.

Perhaps this is a sign that our musicians are finally being seen for what they truly are - talented individuals with a commitment to their craft and who have every right to be rewarded for the hours of hard work they put into making us, their audience, happy. So, kudos to companies like BAT, who seriously believe that Kenyan groups are worth the time, effort and money to promote.

It is concerts like these where hot young stars make a mark on the public. Darlin' P is just one example of an outstanding musician who has won a place in our hearts, with lyrics drawn from such common aspects of Kenyan life that everyone, young and old, can relate to and laugh about. And what better way to start your Saturday morning than to meet this maverick artist in these pages?

The B&H concert was not the only one to take us by storm. The weekend before last, it was the Metro Benga Extravaganza at theNyayo Stadium that was on everyone's lips. An overwhelming number of fans turned up to see this show of togetherness by Kenyan artists.

Incidentally, I am writing this from the comfort of a hotel room in Jo'Burg - which is just an example of another loyal Kenyan who is keen to keep up with what is happening back home.
