Govt sacks hospital team
By NATION Correspondent
The government yesterday fired the embattled Kakamega Provincial
General Hospital's management board for allegedly running down the institution.
The Permanent Secretary for Health, Mr Philemon Mwaisaka, said
the board would be replaced in two weeks by a more transparent and accountable
team.
"We are extremely disappointed in the manner the hospital is being
run. We are definitely going to overhaul the management team and take disciplinary
action against the culprits," he said.
Mr Mwaisaka spoke during a tour of the hospital, which has been in the
news over a serious food shortage and lack of drugs. The PS was accompanied
by an assistant minister, Mr Basil Criticos and the World Health Organisation
country representative, Dr Rufaro Chatora.
Food crisis that left scores of patients starving erupted when
suppliers boycotted to deliver any more supplies
