Nassir: Extend Moi term
The term of the current Parliament should be extended to allow MPs to review the
Constitution, Cabinet Minister Shariff Nassir proposed yesterday.
Bishops to lead reform prayers
Twenty three Catholic bishops will tomorrow begin leading their followers in
countrywide prayers, seeking divine intervention for a people-driven review of the
Constitution.
Govt must now listen to the people
Are the prospects for genuine reforms so desperate that we now must seek
divine intervention? It appears that way. Because a couple of days after calling on
the President to impress on him the importance of allowing the people themselves
to determine how they want to be governed, Catholic bishops have now
embarked on a country-wide series of prayers to seek God's intervention in the
matter.
Mwalimu's rise to power
Almost exactly 50 fifty years ago, young Julius Kambarage Nyerere entered the
gates of the University of Edinburgh as a student, following his education at
Makerere University, Kampala. Edinburgh (as well as Makerere) prepared him for
the title of Mwalimu. Young Nyerere entered Edinburgh in October 1949.
