AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS

STV, SuperSport to televise Cup matches live in Kenya

By NATION Correspondent

The Africa Nations Cup finals - which kick off tomorrow in Bamako, Mali with the opening match between the hosts and Liberia - will be broadcast live on Stellavision (STV) and SuperSport channels, according to television schedules available from both stations.

The 1998 African champions Egypt, once the Pharoahs of African football but missing out of the 2002 World Cup, will meet Senegal at 6.30 pm on Sunday in a crucial match which will determine how Senegal, first time qualifiers in the World Cup, have prepared themselves as they later in the year head to the World Cup.

Four other countries - Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa and Tunisia - will also be using the Nations Cup to prepare for the World Cup.

African champions Cameroon are scheduled to play DRC Congo from 8.30 pm on Sunday at the C. Sikaso stadium while South Africa and Burkina Faso square it at the Stade 26 Mars from 10.30 pm.

Cameroon, who beat Nigeria in penalty shootouts in the last edition, will be tested to the limits in the Nations Cup 2002.

The Indomitable Lions who made their debut in 1970 return on the pitch on Friday next week against Cote d' Ivoire from 8.30 pm.

STV will show all the matches including the final on February 10.

SuperSport has set aside three channels, SS2, SS3, SS5, as they will be showing two matches simultaneously to give supporters of different teams a chance to follow their respective sides.

They will, however, issue a new schedule for the knockout stages which begin on February 3.
