Mumias in easy win over Stars, Leopards are out

By NATION Team

Mumias and Sony Sugar yesterday qualified for the semi-finals of the Hedex Cup when they beat Coast Stars and AFC Leopards respectively in the quarters.

Mumias 2 Stars 0

Coast Stars - who lost 2-0 to Mumias - played without purpose and should have lost by a bigger margin.

Ibrahim Said scored the first goal for the visitors in 71st minute when he connected a left wing cross from second half substitute Francis Chinjili who had dispossessed defender Sammy Apwapo of the ball.

Said was on the mark in the 89th minute when he fired past Coast Stars goalkeeper Titus Adams from yet another Chinjili cross, this time after robbing Evans Arodi.

Coast Stars' elimination leaves Mombasa without a team in the tournament after the elimination of Mombasa Heroes by Tusker on post-match penalties on Wednesday.

Ulinzi also qualified for the semi-finals after locking out Gor Mahia on penalties.

Sony 6 AFC 4

Moi Golden Cup champions AFC Leopards were bundled out of the Hedex Cup by Sony Sugar at the Awendo Green Stadium, 6-4 in post match penalties. The teams had drawn 1-1.

Sony got their opener in the 15th minute when Nick Ouma tapped home a neat cross from Tom Ochieng. Leopards replied through international Nicholas Muyoti barely two minutes later after he lobbed the ball past 'keeper Dan Shikuku.

In the penalty shootout, Sony scored through Francis Minde, Albert Ayora, Albert Musomali, Charles Yongo and Emanwel Geno.

Leopards scored their goals through Asman Akwana, Charles Okwemba and Isaac Muchiri.

Justus Basweti blasted his spot kick wide.
