Watchman The image
formed by the hands of President Kibaki and four other Kenyans in an anti-Aids
campaign is truly exciting, remarks G. Ngunze. He adds: "But to me, it forms a
pentagon shape. I only see the image of Kenya when I consider the persons joining
the hands. There is a president, ordinary folks, both the old and young, male
and female. A pentagon depicts a strong bond/unity for a cause."
Nairobi resident Rachel A., says
she has always wondered how the City Council bills its water consumers. She adds:
"I have received a water bill of more than Sh280,000 for a period of 22 months
for domestic use. Just how does the council arrive at such figures? I would like
to know. I am sure I am not alone on this!"
The arrogance displayed by the Americans
after the capture of Saddam Hussein was uncalled and not surprising at all, considering
the conduct of the lone superpower, comments Andrew Okondo. But Andrew says he
was also appalled at the Americans' decision to show on TV the video footage of
Saddam undergoing a dental check-up, "as if he was a cow". Andrew adds: "It was
the most humiliating scene I've ever seen this year. Shame on the Americans!"
Parents should, indeed, closely
watch over their children as Edith Mukudi advises, says F. Mwaniki. "In this day
and age where beasts masquerading as human beings are ruining the lives of our
children, parents should tighten their grip on their offspring. However, Mukudi's
advice that parents should not trust any man with their daughters is an oxymoron.
Fathers are parents, too. Responsible parents deal with any suspicions and mistrust
to prevent tragedies such as the recent defilement of the four-year-old Kiambu
girl. Both parents should be more vigilant about how they bring up their children."
David Kiriro also begs "to strongly
differ with Mukudi's suggestion that mothers should not trust fathers with their
daughters". He adds: "This is a gross insult to many of us who are good and responsible
fathers of daughters. She should apologise for the remark!"
Roads minister Raila Odinga must
be joking, remarks Mathenge Mundia, adding: "Why would he want to demolish structures
on road reserves, leaving the more urgent task?" He adds: "Shouldn't he first
ensure that the existing roads are properly maintained? Why build new roads when
the existing ones are so full of potholes and gullies?"
Have a logical day, won't you!
