Orphans receive donation of second-hand clothes

By NATION Correspondent

More than 500 orphans from Kwale Town were on Christmas eve treated to free second hand clothes as part of the season's celebrations.

The donation was from Mrs Char Shaffer and Mr Robert Azinga from Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the United States of America.

The guest of honour at the function was the Kwale DO 1, Ms Joyce Musieka.

Also present were the local officials of the Child Welfare Association, Mrs Kauchi Chivumba (secretary) and Mr Swadd Ramtu (vice-chairman).

The ceremony was held at the Kwale Baraza Park.

Ms Musieka urged charitable organisations and well-wishers to help needy children in the town uplift their living standards.

She thanked the two benefactors and urged others to emulate them.

Mrs Chivumba said the government has set aside five acres of land in Kwale Town for the construction of a children's home to cater for orphans and the disabled.

She appealed to donors to assist in the building of the home and the care of the destitute children.
