Shell BP sales fall by 5 pc

By NATION Reporter

Demand for Shell BP products has gone down by 5 per cent in the past one year due to unfavourable conditions.

Illegal dumping of fuel products has also continued to affect the sales.

The newly appointed managing director of the oil firm, Mr George Maina spoke during year-end-party for the Coast region staff at Nyali Beach Hotel.

Mr Maina said the economy was in a recession with many sectors performing poorly.

He said this had negatively impacted on the demand for oil products, as the oil industry was dependent on the success of other sectors such as manufacturing, transport and agriculture.

However he conceded that competition between the oil firms was now neck-to-neck, although BP/Shell remains the market leader.

On illegal dumping of fuel products in the country, Mr. Maina said his company fully supported the government's efforts to eradicate the dumping in the country of fuel products meant for exports.
