No candidate will be stopped from sitting KCSE

By NATION Correspondent

No registered candidate will be barred from sitting the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) which starts tomorrow, the government has said.

Headteachers were warned against sending away students who had not cleared their school fees.

"Any headteacher who sends away a candidate due to fees balance will be dealt with," said the Vice-President, Mr Moody Awori, at Kamukunji grounds in Nyeri on Saturday during a public rally.

He told candidates who had been sent home to report back to school ready for the examinations.

The Narc Government was serious about providing education to all Kenyans especially the poor, he said, adding that bursary funds were adequate to pay fees for needy students.

"Funds have been released by the Government as bursaries for all constituencies in the country. All those who are unable to pay their secondary school fees should benefit," he added.

The VP said the Government was determined to recover more than Sh600 billion stolen through the Goldenberg scandal.

He said the Commission of Inquiry into the Goldenberg Affair would go on until completion of its work.

He made the announcement amid fears that the inquiry could stall following the dramatic suspension of one of its commissioners, Mr Justice Daniel Aganyanya, over corruption claims.

The commission was put into more confusion when its lead counsel John Khaminwa and Gibson Kamau Kuria and lawyer Paul Muite demanded the replacement of the chairman, Mr Justice Samuel Bosire, claiming that he was subjective.

The VP said the Government would recover all stolen money which, he said, was banked in foreign accounts.

"The money lost to Goldenberg is enough to fund the Kenyan budget for three years. The Kenyan budget is only Sh200 billion. We will not allow a few individuals to benefit from it," he said.
