Kanu's top organ set to meet tomorrow

By NATION Reporter

Kanu's National Executive Committee (NEC) meets tomorrow to, among other things, set the date for the elections of national officials.

This will be the first NEC meeting without retired President Moi – the immediate former long serving chairman. Mr Moi went into retirement last month.

Initially, the NEC, was meant to also pick an acting chairman. But, the MPs could not agree on the issue with some proposing that Mr Uhuru Kenyatta – leader of the Official Opposition – be automatically picked to act while others opposed the suggestion.

Although he is yet to categorically announce his intention to contest the chairmanship, Mr Kenyatta, the Gatundu South MP, is seen as the frontrunner for the seat.

Nambale MP Chris Okemo, a former Finance minister, declared interest in the seat on Saturday.
