News Monday, October 20, 2003 MPs warned against hypocrisyA Cabinet minister and six MPs yesterday urged Narc leaders to demonstrate genuineness or perish. Foreign Affairs minister Mr Kalonzo Musyoka said coalition partners who have resorted to treating fellow MPs as people of no value were not true democrats. "There is no way we can wash away the obvious contribution by some leaders in the liberation of Kenya from the misrule of Kanu last year. This factor can't be downplayed," Mr Musyoka said. The minister, who has been out of the country for nearly a month, said the political events in Kenya over the same period were disgusting in terms of economic development. "Our leaders are chasing away investors. Nobody would like to create wealth in a country whose political future is at risk," he said. Mr Musyoka said it was wrong and unacceptable for some leaders to openly look down upon their colleagues. When a leader who was part and parcel of the struggle to root out Kanu suddenly turns against his or her teammates and openly tells them to quit the coalition, we cannot cheat the world that we are practising democracy, Mr Musyoka said. The minister was speaking during a funds-drive in aid of the African Brotherhood Church choir in Machakos. He said Kenya needs special prayers to get out of the current political crisis. MPs Reuben Ndolo (Makadara), Mrs Nyiva Mwendwa (Kitui West), Mr Kiema Kilonzo (Mutitu), Mr Patrice Ivuti (Kitui South), Charles Kilonzo (Yatta) and the host, Daudi Mwanzia (Machakos Town), also spoke. |
