Sports Monday, October 20, 2003 CRICKET Sri Lanka 'A' beat Kenya by five wicketsA shaky batting performance by Kenya handed touring Sri Lanka 'A' and easy five-wicket victory at Nairobi's Ruaraka Sports Club yesterday. The hosts' captain Steve Tikolo won the toss and opted to bat first with Kenya struggling to 176 all out after a very early loss of openers Ravindu Shah and Kennedy Obuya. Obuya was caught by Nand Nawaz for a first ball duck off Dharshana Gamage. Shah also lost his wicket cheaply, caught by Lanka De Silva off Gamage for seven. The top order failed to cope with Sri Lanka's tight bowling and good fielding and at one point Kenya were sailing in deep waters with score at 75 for five. Martin Suji (30) injected some hope in the team with his brilliant batting when he shared an eighth-wicket partnership of 20 runs with Francis Otieno (19) who was playing a supportive role. Sri Lanka 'A' reached the target with five wickets and 14 overs in hand with De Silva named man-of-the match for his match-winning innings of 39 not out. Maurice Odumbe (2-29) was the only Kenyan bowler who got more than one wicket. Game Two is today at the same venue. Scoreboard: K. Obuya c N. Nawaz b D. Gamage–0 R. Shah c L. Desilva b D. Gamage–7 H.
