Kyanguli teachers released on bond

By NATION Reporter

The Kyanguli headmaster and his deputy were yesterday released on bond.

Mr David Mutiso and Mr Stephen Kasyoka, who have been charged with failing to prevent the fire that killed 67 students, have been in custody since April 5.

Nairobi Chief Magistrate Boaz Olao allowed them Sh500,000 bond with one surety in the same amount, but under a strict instruction not to interfere with investigations.

They are accused of having had information on a looming tragedy, but failing to take action to avert it. The fire razed one of the boys' dormitories on March 25.

Mr Olao exempted the teachers from attending a mention on Monday.

Two Form Three students – Davis Otieno and Felix Mambo – charged with the murder of their colleagues will appear in court on Monday for a mention.
