Stars all set to face Trinidad

By CHARLES NYENDE

Trinidad and Tobago were due to arrive in Nairobi today at 6 am for a friendly international football match against Kenya.

The Caribbean team and Kenya clash, in a first ever meeting, on Saturday at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani .

Kenya will be using the match as their last build-up ahead of two crucial African Nations Cup qualifying matches against Mauritania and Togo next month.

"This is a good trial match for us and we would like to impress," Jacob "Ghost" Mulee the Harambee Stars coach said.

"Trinidad and Tobago have good players some of whom are playing in England. But with the arrival of Robert Mambo and John Muiruri (from Belgium) and Musa Otieno (from South Africa) we should put up a good show," Mulee added.

Captain Otieno and his assistant Mambo were expected yesterday while Muiruri was due to arrive later in the week. Kenya Football Federation acting secretary Allan Chenane said tentative plans were in place for the Trinidad team to also play the Kenya under-23 Olympic team.

"We are still discussing whether to play the under-23 (Olympic team) but have yet to commit ourselves," Chenane said.

The team from the Caribbean hold a Press conference today afternoon at Utalii Hotel. Trinidad and Tobago’s new head coach Stuart Charles Fevrier said he hoped to lead his squad to a higher level of play as the team departed for their African tour.

Apart from Kenya, Trinidad’s 20-man team faces Botswana on June 10 in Gaborone, and South Africa on June 15.

Fevrier, who began earlier this month, said on Monday that he was particularly looking forward to the clash with South Africa. "This is not just about winning. We will also welcome victories, but my main aim is to play good football and develop as a team," he said at the airport before the team’s departure.

"I will use the matches to look at players at the higher level and against stiffer opposition to see how they handle those situations. We will use the training sessions to get the players acquainted to my style of play and to help build relationships with them."
