Managing Director - Nation
Newspapers Division - ESS 335
Reporting to the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Managing
Director (MD) will be accountable to the Board for leading and managing
the division in line with direction and policies agreed by the Board.
The MD will lead Nation Newspapers Division (NND) and deliver both
its short and long-term objectives.
The MD will have an impressive track record of leadership demonstrating
delivery against demanding targets and excellent intellectual and
interpersonal skills -- gained in the sales and marketing/distribution
sectors. Experience at Board level in a competitive private sector
organisation is essential.
Specifically the MD will:
- prepare and recommend to the Board annual business plans and long-term
strategic plans to meet specific targets for revenue, profit and shareholder
returns;
- assume total operational and commercial responsibility for NND
across the East African region and develop and execute a strategic
vision for each of the markets;
- pursue growth opportunities for product development and regional
expansion to enhance the quality of products, customer care, service
delivery and develop customer loyalty;
- build, coach and mentor a strong management team to drive the business
and provide attractive opportunities for staff development and growth
so as to enhance morale and retain highly productive staff.

Group Information Technology
(IT) Director - ESS 336
The Nation Media Group (NMG) is placing an increasing emphasis on
the role of technology to drive its business and to maximise its return
on the substantial investment in Information Technology (IT). The
Group is seeking a business-focused IT professional to develop and
implement the Group's innovative IT strategy and ensure best practice
delivery to the internal customers.
Reporting to the CEO, the Group IT Director will provide strategic
leadership and direction for development and implementation of effective
IT.
If you have the energy to strive for integrated systems, to exploit
new technologies and harness the leading-edge business systems, write

- develop and implement an effective IT strategy for the Group
to support the corporate strategy, maximise service delivery and
fully exploit technology;
- direct and co-ordinate IT functions across the Group operations
and providing strategic leadership and guidance on IT matters including
enforcing best practices in IT standards;
- prepare and monitor a significant IT budget;
- lead and manage the Group IT team in the design, development,
implementation, operation and support of an integrated IT infrastructure;
- manage transition from legacy systems to the state-of-art enterprise
resource planning, the internet and e-business systems environment;
- increase business benefits by introducing and developing e-commerce
and other internet related capabilities.
The ideal candidate must be a Senior Manager with over 10 years experience
in IT, at least 5 of which should be as head of IT function in a progressive
commercial sector enterprise. You must have:
- solid background in IT which includes business analysis, major
project management according to structured methodologies and best
practice service delivery in a commercial environment;
- excellent planning and project management ability covering bespoke
and packaged implementation across the full system life-cycle with
experience in implementation of leading-edge business systems including
ERP, internet and intranet applications on client-server based platforms;
- sound understanding of networking technologies such as LANs and
WANs;
- excellent people management, communication and negotiating skills
including the management of external partners;
- innovative and strategic abilities with good analytical skills
and commercial acumen.

The successful candidates will be over 35 years and
have a university degree or equivalent as a minimum. Post graduate
qualification preferably an MBA degree and international experience
in a multinational setting will be an added advantage in each case.
