Rainbow's New Plan: Take on Nyachae First

KENYA'S FLUID politics appeared tilted against the ruling party Kanu last week as prospects for a united opposition loomed large. A splinter group within Kanu called the Rainbow Alliance announced on Friday that it would boycott the party's presidential nomination this week in protest against the alleged rigging of delegates for the caucus by supporters of President Daniel arap Moi's preferred successor Uhuru Kenyatta. The Alliance's withdrawal left Uhuru's campaign with little legitimacy and the party split down the middle, making the opposition unity strategy a significant factor in who succeeds Moi as Kenya's third president in 40 years of independence. .

Crisis as Congo Refugees Flood into Uganda
UGANDA HAS dispatched a team of experts to the border with the conflict-torn Democratic Republic of Congo to assess a looming humanitarian crisis on the Ugandan side of the border caused by an influx of Congolese refugees fleeing ethnic clashes.
